Denise Ocampo

Medical Student

Denise Ocampo is a first-generation medical student at Penn State College of Medicine, Class of 2027, committed to health equity, patient advocacy, and improving care for underserved communities. A Southern California native raised in Maui, Hawaii, she earned her degree in Biomedical Sciences from Northern Arizona University.

Denise is active in organized medicine and health policy through the American Medical Association (AMA), Pennsylvania Medical Society, Medical Organization for Latino Advancement (MOLA), and Doctors for America. She currently serves as Speaker of the AMA Medical Student Section Governing Council and has held additional leadership roles focused on health justice, physician advocacy, and medical student representation.

Her work centers on addressing barriers to equitable care, strengthening pathways into medicine, and translating the needs of patients and physicians into meaningful policy. Denise plans to pursue cardiology, with an interest in interventional cardiology, while continuing to integrate patient care, advocacy, mentorship, and health policy throughout her career.
