Early Detection of T1D

Today, T1D can be identified before insulin is needed through a blood test that detects autoantibodies. Knowing your risk early can help reduce serious complications at the time of diagnosis. Learn more about early detection and the screening options available to you.

School Resources

Going back to school with T1D brings new questions every year — from coordinating with school nurses and teachers to preparing a 504 Plan and knowing what to do on sick days, which can affect glucose levels more than expected.

Our School Guide supports families from preschool through college with checklists, templates and practical guidance so families and school teams can work together with confidence.

Prepare for Emergencies and Disasters

September marks the most active point of hurricane season, and living with T1D requires additional planning for storms, fires and other emergencies.

Our Emergencies and Disasters resource includes updates on current disasters, guidance for building a diabetes emergency kit, and resources from organizations such as the Diabetes Disaster Response Coalition, the American Red Cross and FEMA.

Free Educational Kits

Living with T1D looks different at every age — and the support families need changes over time. The Bag of Hope, Teen Family Kit and Adult Kit are designed to educate, support and inspire children, teens and adults living with T1D and their families, whether they are newly diagnosed or have been on this journey for years.

These bilingual kits include materials in both Spanish and English, allowing families to access information in the language that works best for them. Kits are available exclusively in the United States.

Traditional Food Baskets

These food baskets provide carbohydrate counts for culturally relevant foods. The Mexican and Central American basket, for example, includes ingredients such as nopales, chayote and squash; foods and sauces such as pico de gallo and salsa verde; drinks including horchata, atole and champurrado; and even a recipe for chilaquiles verdes.
