The Effects of Gaps in Immigrant Healthcare Coverage

We are lookning for providers, care managers and other care team members who have worked with immigrant patients who either (1) have HBIA or HBIS and their care plans have been affected by the gaps in coverage, (2) do not qualify for HBIA or HBIS because they are 19-42 or are affected by the current pause on enrollment 42-64, (3) have worked with immigrant patients who have not been able to access key portions of their discharge plan because of gaps in access.

The purpose of this study is to Identify if differences exist in the workflow for hospital care management teams when caring for patients covered by Health Benefits for Immigrant Adults (HBIA) or Health Benefits for Immigrant Seniors (HBIS) compared to Medicare or Medicaid patients. If there are differences in workflow, then identify the factors causing them and the specific effects these factors are having on workflow. The study will involve an approximately hour-long virtual interview with a researcher to capture your thoughts and experiences. We will ask you open ended questions related to your experiences as a care management team member and your perception of whether caring for patients covered by HBIA or HBIS differed from your experience caring for Medicare or Medicaid patients. The interviewees must be a part of care management or a discharge team at their respective institution and have cared for patients covered by HBIA or HBIS.
