As a Chicago native\, Sara has led numerous community activism projects\, utilizing her Master of Public Health to incorporate a socio-ecological approach to health and medicine. Sara’s background of organizing neighborhood-led vaccination campaigns and health fairs inspired her to establish the Mobile Migrant Health Team (MMHT) in April 2023 to address Chicago’s State of Emergency Crisis. Since its creation\, MMHT has served over 9\,000 unhoused Americans and recently arrived immigrant patients. Dr Chae will discuss a social-ecological\, psychobiological\, and developmental approach to studying racism and implementing anti-racist interventions. Racial inequities in health are caused by racism ­— a social and moral dilemma\, as well as a serious public health concern. In addition to causing direct physical damage\, racism is also embodied covertly\, including via biological processes underlying multiple disease pathways such as accelerated aging at the cell level.

DESCRIPTION:Dr. George Molina is a practicing Surgical Oncologist in the Division of Surgical Oncology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) and the Gastrointestinal Cancer Treatment Center at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. He is also an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Molina obtained an MPH in Quantitative Methods from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health (HSPH). As part of his training in General Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH)\, he completed a two-year post-graduate research fellowship at Ariadne Labs\, a joint health systems innovation center of BWH and HSPH. Dr. Molina has previously demonstrated that implementation of a surgical safety checklist was associated with improvements in the perceived culture of surgical safety in South Carolina\, and that state-wide implementation of the surgical safety checklist was associated with a significant reduction in postoperative mortality. \nDr. Molina’s current research interests include improving the safety\, quality\, and equity of surgical care through health systems innovation. He is also interested in understanding how patients navigate cancer care and the impact of fragmentation of cancer care on disparities in surgical outcomes in the United States. Dr. Molina conducts his research at the Center for Surgery and Public Health and at Ariadne Labs.
