DESCRIPTION:Register here \nCarlos Espiche\, MD\, MEd \nChief Medical Resident Class 2025 SBH Health System CUNY School of Medicine | NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine \n \n  \nCarlos Espiche is a dedicated physician and educator with a strong foundation in cardiology\, medical education\, and research. Born in Lima\, Peru\, Carlos studied medicine at the Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC)\, where he graduated as valedictorian and served as a Junior Faculty member. He worked as a hospitalist at the Clínica Internacional in Lima before answering the call to serve in the jungle of Peru during the COVID-19 pandemic. There\, he promoted health maintenance in underserved populations and earned a diploma in occupational health. \nCarlos continued his medical journey by completing the USMLE exams while working as an occupational health physician at the Clínica Internacional. He later matched at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx\, where he has excelled in leadership and community outreach\, currently serving as Chief Medical Resident in the hospital’s Internal Medicine program\, which includes over 95 residents. He was honored as Resident of the Year during his intern year for his exceptional leadership skills. Carlos also served as a delegate for the Committee of Interns and Residents (CIR)\, contributing to resident advocacy and support. \nDr. Espiche is a member of the National Hispanic Medical Association (NHMA) communications committee\, a mentor at MOLA (Medical Opportunities for Latino Advancement)\, and a social media ambassador for ACC24. He has helped foster innovation and collaboration in cardiovascular medicine by serving on the Committee of Quality and Innovation for the New York Chapter of the American College of Cardiology (NY ACC). Additionally\, Carlos serves on the advisory committee of the Journal of the NHMA. \nDuring his residency\, Carlos published several papers and actively participated in multiple cardiology congresses\, continuing to contribute to the field of cardiovascular medicine. He is also a research associate at CUNY and Montefiore Medical Center\, contributing to cardiovascular technology development and cardiac imaging research. While in residency\, he completed a Master’s in Education at UPC\, applying his education through his role as an associate lecturer at CUNY\, working closely with the Internal Medicine team and teaching department. \nCarlos has delivered several lectures for the Hispanic population through organizations such as the Hispanic Access Foundation\, MOLA\, and NHMA\, working to support and promote the development of the Latino community. \nCarlos is now focusing his career on preventive cardiology and structural heart health. He blends his clinical expertise with a passion for improving patient outcomes and advancing cardiovascular medicine. He plans to pursue a fellowship in cardiovascular medicine. Carlos has a passion for teaching\, which he has applied in his various educational roles. He is committed to educating the next generation of healthcare professionals. \nRegister here
